ARGOVISION’S “Argoscan” software module wins the renowned “Intertraffic Innovation Award 2008”

SINZING, April 2008. With its latest new development in the field of traffic management technology, the “Argoscan multi static” hard shoulder scanning system detection software, Funkwerk Argovision was the focus of attention at the Intertraffic Amsterdam (1-4 April). This software module, which is designed to assist the job of releasing the hard shoulder on motorways to moving traffic on a temporary basis, was awarded the “Intertraffic Innovation Award 2008” in the traffic management category.

For the Sinzing-based company this year’s Intertraffic Amsterdam, the world’s biggest traffic management trade fair, began with a thunderbolt. During the official opening Heinz Lengauer, branch director of and traffic expert at Funkwerk Argovision, received the “Intertraffic Innovation Award 2008” in the category of “Traffic Management” from Wim Kuijken, the Dutch Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. “This is without doubt the most important award that ARGOVISION has received to date,” said Lengauer after the award ceremony. “It shows how much importance the experts in the field of traffic management accord to our technology as a forward-looking solution.” Coming at the Intertraffic Amsterdam, which has now been well established as the world’s leading trade fair for traffic management for some years, such an award is of special significance.

From over 70 submissions the independent, international expert jury featuring a whole host of key names in the field, concluded that the new type of Argoscan multi-static detection software was the most innovative product in the field of traffic management. This means that the significance of releasing the hard shoulder on motorways to moving traffic as a solution for coping with increasing traffic volumes has now been given recognition with two awards within a short space of time. In 2007 the German federal state of Hessen was awarded the CENTRICO Award for the use of the principle of releasing the hard shoulder to moving traffic with the assistance of PLATON camera units from Argovision. With the Innovation Award the newly developed digital software aid for releasing the hard shoulder has now also been given recognition with a highly renowned award. Argoscan is the first detection software to have been developed for multi-static applications. It provides digital assistance for the job of scanning the hard shoulder before releasing it for use by moving traffic and therefore makes the whole process even safer at the same time.

By permanently analysing all the sections of the motorway hard shoulder which have been scanned, Argoscan ensures that those sections which have already been checked by the operator are still free of obstacles right up to the end of the operator’s visual examination. This has drastically cut the time and safety gap, which was previously up to as long as 30 minutes depending on the length of the section being checked, to just 90 seconds every time – the time required for a single camera run through. For those wishing to find out more about the award winner from Funkwerk Argovision at the Intertraffic, there is still time but only until 4 April. Argoscan can be seen not only on the company’s stand, 03.117 in Hall 3, but also alongside the other nominees and award winners in the Innovation Award Tunnel between Hall 3 and the Diamond Lounge.
